Welcome to our Village .....

Tradition says that Davenham (pronounced Day'vnum) was a place of worship in remote ages before the Christian era.The Celts are said to have practiced their religious rites here and there is also a tradition that later, St Wilfred established a church here during his journeys through Cheshire.
The hillside along the river Dane at Shipbrook and the land between Davenham church and the by-pass road are said to be the sites of long barrows, the burial place of Saxons and Danes who fought a battle in the vicinity.

East and west of the village are Roman roads, branches of the old Watling Street, one leading from Manchester to Chester, now called Chester Road, and the other a branch of the same road leading to Kinderton and Congleton, now called King Street.

The Bulls Head Pub across the road

On the Davenham road, connecting these two highways, at one time there could be seen three large stones. It is believed that these were used as markers by the Romans in planning their roads.

Davenham’s appeal is primarily due to the Victorian architecture and convenient village centre including a complimentary blend of shops ranging from beauty salons, hairdressers, delicatessen, post office, barber, spar shop, petrol station, florist, gift shop and photographer all within 2 minutes walk.

Davenham also boasts an array of eating establishments consisting of two country pubs, a beautiful Italian restaurant and Chinese chip shop for those in a hurry.....
